Dear Mayor, Assembly and Citizens of Whitehorse,

I am an American citizen reaching out to all of you in Whitehorse, our Sister City.

You all have the right to be alarmed and disappointed in the current US President's actions toward our Neighbors, Canada and Mexico. I and other Americans understand that because many, many Americans are feeling great fear and utter frustration by the actions of DOGE, Department of Government Efficiency, by dismantling government agencies and Donald Trump's erratic announcements about tariffs, turning against Ukraine and changing our course in international relations to buddy up with Putin.

I, along with a group of Juneau-ites are doing our best to speak up in mass to our Alaska state delegation, US delegation and local governments. We have a responsibility and are doing our best to speak up for freedom and democracy.

Remember, Donald Trump won by only 2.5 million votes. He did this by lying to the American public. Telling them what they wanted to hear, "I will decrease the price of eggs, don't you worry." He did it by distancing himself from the radical document Project 2025 which is not directing the slash and burn of our government agencies. He did it by withdrawing from the standard presidential debates because he didn't want to be fact checked. He went on radio broadcasts and podcasts such as Joe Rogan and the like to stir up an emotional allegiance because he has the quality as a reality show host to do that. He is a felon,an entertainer and a businessman and our president. These are all unfortunate facts.

Many Juneau-ites are standing up for freedom and democracy because we understand that it is in danger. Please keep the faith in us. Juneau-ties love Whitehorse as our Canadian Sister City.

    In solidarity,

    Laura Stats

    Dear Mayor Cameron,

I’m writing from Juneau to let you and your Whitehorse residents know that many, many, most of us in Juneau do NOT support the destructive tariffs that Donald Trump has/wants to, impose on Canada. Despite what he’s claimed, he knows it will not only be harmful to Canadians, our biggest and most important trading partner, but also harmful to Americans (otherwise why would he keep claiming they are on, then off, then partially on again).

I have spent a lot of time in Canada over my lifetime, and I have a great deal of respect for Canadians. I love Whitehorse in particular, and have spent a lot of time over the years. I plan to do a big roadtrip into the Yukon this summer in my camper van. I spent last summer in your beautiful Maritime Provinces and visited my family in Toronto and Prince Edward County wine country.

I’m upset and angry over the way this President has treated our allies and the way he has cozied up to the bullies of the world. I have a great deal of fear for my country going forward. I send emails and make calls frequently to my Congressional representatives.

I just wanted to let you know!! Best regards to you and your community!

    Sincerely,

    Judy Cavanaugh

    Hello Honorable Mayor:

Your city of Whitehorse is a place I have visited at least a 10 times.

From camping at various beautiful sites to ice hockey tournaments, girls Horse Camp at Heart Bar Ranch to family time at Takini Hot Springs; Whitehorse is a place we love.

Living in Juneau, Whitehorse is one of the closest places for us to go when we want a trip out of town.

There’s so much we have loved and enjoyed about Whitehorse over the years.

And like me many Americans, I did not vote for our current president and do not support any of his policies.

I am disgusted by his actions, including the tariffs on our best friends, Canadian citizens.

Please accept my sincerest heartfelt apologies for the financial burden and other stress this is causing you, your city, your province, and your nation.

My husband and I plan to make a trip to Whitehorse this summer and support you in a small way with our tourism dollars.

    You have a wonderful city.

Take care and best of luck getting through this difficult time.

    Sincerely, Amy Kesten

Honorable Mayor Cameron of Whitehorse and City Council,

I'm forwarding you a letter I sent to the Juneau-Douglas Borough Assembly when we returned home from the Yukon two days ago, the same day Trump imposed the tariffs. We were able to listen to Canadian radio, in the Yukon, as we drove home to the ferry in Skagway. Through the powerful and peaceful landscape which holds our border.

Since moving to Juneau in 1989, I've been privileged to work and play in the Yukon, whether that's workshopping plays at NaKai Theatre, coaching for the Arctic Winter Games/Team Alaska Snowshoe, running the Klondike Road Relay or camping and exploring from the Canol Highway to Dawson, from Keno to Watson Lake. For years we've skied annually at Mt Mac with friends; we've also brought our teams to ski at Mt Lorne or the Yukon Marathon, or to simply enjoy a weekend on your trails.

I'm grateful for the relationships- and for your community welcoming us and sharing your awesome space. I'm disgusted at the way Trump is treating you, our neighbors (as well as the United States citizen and the rest of the world),

I can't apologize for the President, I can only tell you how deeply I value the Yukon in my own life- the people who live there and the places you care for and share with me.

    Gunalchéesh, Thank you,

    Merry Ellefson

    Dear Citizens of Whitehorse,

I am writing to you in care of Mayor Cameron and the Whitehorse Council Members.

I want to let you know that the residents of your sister city, Juneau Alaska, greatly value our Canadian neighbors in Whitehorse and elsewhere across your country.

Many of my relatives and friends have regularly visited the Yukon, either just because it is a grand place in both summer and winter, or to travel through to the other part of Alaska or the Lower 48 States. We have found unfailing hospitality and welcome.

We are appalled at the injustice of the tariffs that have been imposed on Canada by the current Administration of the United States, and the dismayingly uncivil tone the Administration has taken toward our good friends across our northern border.

Please know that not all Alaskans or United States residents support the actions and the tone and the approach taken.

    Sincerely,

    Larri Spengler
